Game description:

60 Seconds! is a survival game about the McDoodle family trying to live through a nuclear disaster. The game begins inside their house, where the player controls Ted and has only 60 seconds to collect family members and useful supplies before reaching the fallout shelter. What is taken during this first section directly affects the rest of the game. Food, water, tools, weapons, medical supplies, and even entertainment items can become important later.

The First 60 Seconds

The opening part is played in real time. Ted runs through a procedurally arranged house while the player decides what to carry into the shelter. Every item takes space, so it is impossible to collect everything. Family members must also be physically picked up and brought to the shelter. When the timer ends, anyone or anything left outside is lost for that run.

The main gameplay includes:

  •         collecting supplies before the explosion;
  •         rescuing Ted, Dolores, Mary Jane, and Timmy;
  •         rationing food and water;
  •         deciding who should leave the shelter on expeditions;
  •         reacting to random daily events;
  •         using collected items to solve problems;
  •         managing illness, injuries, hunger, and mental condition;
  •         trying to keep at least part of the family alive.

Life in the Shelter

After the explosion, the game changes from real-time movement to daily survival management. Each day, the player reads about the condition of the family and chooses what to do. Water and food are limited, so giving supplies too frequently can cause shortages later. Family members can become sick, injured, tired, or unstable. Events may involve strangers, radio messages, mutant creatures, suspicious visitors, or opportunities to trade. Some situations require specific items, and losing an important object can affect later events.

Expeditions and Endings

60 Seconds! does not have traditional levels. Progress is measured in days spent inside the shelter and by the sequence of events that occurs during each run. Family members can be sent into the wasteland to search for additional resources, although these expeditions involve risks and may end with injuries, illness, or death.

The main objective is to survive long enough to reach one of the possible rescue outcomes. Different groups can contact the family, and the player may need to complete several related events before rescue becomes possible. A run can also end if everyone dies or disappears. Because the house layout, collected supplies, events, and decisions can change, repeated playthroughs can develop differently even though the basic survival structure remains the same.
