Five New-Fangled Nights is a FNAF fan game set in Freddybear’s Pizza Parlour. The player takes the role of Charlie, a night security guard who monitors the restaurant while its robotic performers move through the building. The story is revealed through scenes between nights and gradually explains the connection between Charlie, the animatronics, and the children associated with them. The game uses a black-and-white cartoon presentation inspired by early animation, but the basic objective is still to survive each night until the shift ends.
The office contains the Faz-Puter, a security system used to check cameras around the building. The player watches locations such as the Show Stage, Dining Area, Backstage, and halls to see where each animatronic is moving. A door on the left side can be held shut when an enemy reaches the office, but doing this consumes power. Because power is limited, the player cannot simply keep defensive systems active for the entire night.
The main gameplay includes:
Bonnie follows a route through areas such as the Dining Area, Backstage, and West Hall before reaching the office door. If the player does not hold the door shut when he arrives, he can enter and end the night. Other enemies use different mechanics. Carl the Cupcake, for example, can enter the office and interfere with power and doors unless the player reacts quickly. Later parts of the game add more characters and additional patterns to learn.
Progress is divided into night shifts rather than traditional levels. After a night, the game can move into story scenes or minigames. One of these is Bonnie Bash, where the player clicks Bonnie as he appears from different holes to increase a score. Reaching certain goals can provide an advantage during the next night.
The main challenge comes from combining observation with resource management. The player needs to know where each threat is, decide when the door is actually necessary, and avoid wasting power. Story scenes between nights add information about the children and the animatronics, while later nights increase the number of things that must be monitored at the same time.
