Julian & Friends is a psychological horror game presented like an interactive cartoon and point-and-click adventure. The story begins on Julia’s birthday. Julian wants to prepare a surprise party for his wife, so he travels around town asking his friends for help. What initially looks like a simple series of cartoon adventures gradually develops into a darker story connected to the world of 98xx. The game uses dialogue, animated scenes, minigames, hidden information, and different codes that can change what happens during a playthrough.
Julian visits different characters and locations while completing tasks for them. Helping these characters allows the story to continue and brings Julian closer to preparing the birthday party. The journey includes several unusual situations, including traveling through space and sailing across the sea. Most of the experience plays like an interactive film, with long sequences of dialogue and animation interrupted by sections where the player must actively complete a task.
The game includes:
One of the main systems is the code screen available at the beginning. The game can be played normally without entering anything, but additional codes become available as the player progresses. Entering them can modify events, reveal alternative content, or lead toward different outcomes. Some codes are presented as corrupted data, connecting the gameplay to the horror elements and hidden parts of the story.
Julian & Friends does not use conventional levels with combat or character progression. Instead, the game moves through a sequence of story scenes, locations, and minigames. Characters such as Gerald, Darcy, Mr. Write, and Princess Angelica appear during Julian’s journey, each with their own role in the events surrounding the party.
To play, the player mainly follows the dialogue, interacts when required, completes the current minigame, and looks for clues or codes that can reveal more content. Replaying the game with different codes can change parts of the experience and lead to other endings. The main progression therefore comes from completing the story, discovering secrets, and testing how different codes affect Julian’s journey and the events behind its cartoon presentation.
