Shift At Midnight is a cooperative horror game set in a remote gas station during the late-night hours. Players take on the role of graveyard shift workers, tasked with managing the store while facing increasingly strange and dangerous customers. Up to four people can play together, though the game can also be experienced solo. The tension comes from supernatural threats and from the pressure of identifying them through limited interaction. Each decision carries consequences that can affect the entire team.
Each customer that enters the gas station must be questioned and examined. Players can ask up to five questions per customer, using that limited interaction to determine whether the person is human or something else. Along with conversation, players must analyze ID cards and match them against a database, all while watching for subtle signs of deception. Missing a critical detail or trusting the wrong visitor can allow a creature to escape—and trigger a more dangerous phase of gameplay.
Once a creature slips through unnoticed, the game changes tone. Players must quickly act to defend themselves and the store. This includes boarding up doors, placing traps, and finding safe hiding spots. The pressure escalates fast, and survival is no longer guaranteed. The store becomes a trap of its own, and working as a team becomes the only way to avoid disaster.

Shift At Midnight supports private multiplayer through Steam, with sessions for up to four players. The game emphasizes teamwork and communication, making it well-suited for coordinated play. A singleplayer demo is already available on Itch.io, while the developers are working toward releasing a multiplayer demo once a wishlist milestone is reached. The game continues to evolve with feedback from the community and is designed to blend suspense, horror, and shared panic among players.
The developers encourage players to wishlist the game to support its growth and help unlock future updates. While the current focus is on refining the core loop of questioning, defending, and surviving, future updates aim to add more creatures, dialogue options, and map variations. With its blend of investigation and horror mechanics, Shift At Midnight offers a tense, replayable experience that rewards attention to detail and strong communication under pressure.
