Game description:

Tomodachi Life is a life simulation where the player creates Mii characters and watches them live together on an island. There is no fixed story with a beginning and ending. Instead, events are generated from the personalities, relationships, and needs of the residents. The player can create Miis based on friends, family members, fictional characters, or original ideas, then assign personalities, voices, birthdays, and other details. Up to 100 Miis can live in the apartment building.

Life Inside the Apartments

Most interaction begins by visiting residents in their apartments. Miis regularly ask for food, clothing, new interiors, advice, or help with personal problems. The player can give them gifts, play short minigames, and learn which foods and items each character likes or dislikes. Helping a Mii increases its happiness, and residents can level up as that meter fills.

The main activities include:

  •         creating and editing Mii characters;
  •         giving residents food, clothes, and apartment interiors;
  •         solving problems and responding to requests;
  •         playing small minigames with residents;
  •         watching friendships and arguments develop;
  •         helping Miis with romantic relationships;
  •         visiting shops and other island locations;
  •         unlocking additional buildings and activities.

Friendships Can Turn Into Families

Relationships develop largely on their own, although Miis often ask the player for advice. Two residents can become friends, argue, fall in love, start dating, marry, and eventually have children. Other Miis can become involved in romantic situations as well, creating rivalries or failed confessions. Children born to married couples grow over time and can later move into their own apartment or leave the island as travelers.

What Opens Up Around the Island

Tomodachi Life does not have conventional levels. Progress instead unlocks new places around the island. These include shops, a café, the Concert Hall, an amusement park, and other facilities. Shops change their available stock regularly, while certain locations provide special activities. The Concert Hall allows Miis to perform songs, including lyrics edited by the player, and the amusement park contains activities such as Tomodachi Quest.

The main routine is to check apartments, respond to requests, buy items, and see what has changed since the previous visit. Time and seasons continue to pass, so new events can appear on different days. There is no final mission that completes the game. Progress comes from expanding the population, unlocking locations, improving residents’ happiness, and watching relationships between the Miis develop over time.
